The Juggling Act

Hey all!

I hope 2009 is going well for everyone reading this:) I've sorta fallen off the "keeping-my-fans-up-to-date" wagon lately, so sorry for that! I haven't played many shows recently either, which kinda bites. BUT, I've been writing a ton of new music that I can't wait to share with you all.
Reason for the breif break from playing out? Well, there's been a lot of other things in life going on. Mainly, I'm getting married this fall!! Yay!! And to the most amazing guy. I consider myself among the luckiest of people in the world. Needless to say, it's been quite a challenge to plan guest lists, reception decorations, ceremony agendas...among other things, while at the same time try to constantly listen to my creative muse. It's a juggling act that I wouldn't trade for anything though...

My big musical highlight for 2009 thus far would have to be the Durango Songwriters Expo, which I attended in Santa Barabara last month. It's the second "Durango" I've been on, and it was just as awesome as my first, if not more so. I got to make a lot of great connections at the expo with other songwriters and music industry reps, which is invaluable. Perhaps more importanly though, I came to a realization on that trip... I realized that songwriting is something I can't and won't ever give up for anything. It can be a struggle to make time for all the things we want to accomplish in life, especially since we're all working extra hard these days amidst a struggling economy. But I've realized that no matter my financial situation, no matter how busy my schedule is...there always needs to be time and energy saved for writing songs. That is my vow to myself from now on...to never neglect my writing. It may not always be the first thing on the priority list, but it certainly should never be bumped off this list!!

So what's your soul food? Mine is songwriting, obviously. But whatever yours is, make sure to put aside time for that passion. Even if you are getting married in 7 months, or working 50 hours a week, or running around like a chicken with your head cut off... Life's too brief to not do what you love. So just do it!!
